Well organised event over a scenic route - welcome return of the Tewkesbury 1/2 marathon!

Be aware there is a lot of noise from locals about the road closures not being clear, not given enough notice or being consulted - being a local participant myself ( I have run in this event over 20 times since 1996) - I can concur with the first point but I have put that down to new organiser's lack of local knowledge and being the first time they have run this event.
Local reports of some idiotic drivers ignoring road closure signs, one report of a near miss with a horse box in Bredon village.
Only road issue I had was the open road section between Kemerton war memorial and exit of the village- a well known parking trouble spot outside the Crown public house. This is caused by drivers parking their cars on either side of the road which caused traffic delays each way and a potential safety issue for runners. Suggested solution is to try and put cones out to stop people parking on road opposite the pub or change the course to run along Jobs Lane which would avoid the war memorial/Crown pub section. The latter option would probably require an extension of the route somewhere else along the course to make up for the slightly shortened distance. Would be a shame though as the villagers do traditionally congregate in large numbers to cheer the runners along through the village and by the war memorial/pub.
I think the bus shuttle from the Cotswold Outlet was a great success, despite one bus company failing to supply some buses. The centre of Tewkesbury was very quiet with regards to traffic and those of us who are local and drove into the centre of Tewkesbury to use the car parks had no issues parking. Exiting the event after 11am was a delight as previous events which started from the council offices and provided parking in the fields behind the offices always caused traffic issues post the event.
Drinking stations published mileage markers (3,6 and 9 miles) were way off - I calculated that they were actually at 4, 8.5 and 10.5 miles. Not an issue as the day was cool and dehydration not a problem if you were well hydrated at the start. If it had been hot it would have been unwelcome but understand that local road layouts will impact where you can situate the drinks stations.
Looking forward to hearing that it will run again next year and hope you find the above useful.

What a vibe

This was my first half marathon and it was amazing to see the support from communities all the way around the route. The road closures were organised and really helped the runners on the day. I hope to do it again next year!

Great route & atmosphere

Despite the mixup with the buses - it was a lovely, well run event and I definitely do it again

Good Half marathon well organised

The buses were an issue that was explained. We had to wait along time after to get one back getting very cold.
The wasn’t a water station at 6 miles as advertised so long gap between 3 and 8 miles for water.
No nibbles at the end which Cirencester for example had. Only a bottle of water.

Wonderful to have the THM back. Closed road were brilliant for the runners. Well done.

Watch out for angry drivers on closed roads

I enjoyed running the event, lovely scenic route. I know with Tewkesbury its hard to create closed roads completely, however some drivers ignored the closed roads and got through, most were friendly but a few were not.
I really appreciate that you gave the slower runners as much support as the faster ones, however being out there much longer, having toilet facilities on route would have been handy.
I also feel the water stations could have been spaced better, too long a distance between the first and second one.
I would do this again, you could maybe look at a route change, include for example the route used guy fawkes 5, may have less impact on roads requiring to be closed.

Fantastic relatively flat run with some great views and scenery and amazing local support through this historic town and for almost all of the run. Will be back next year.

Overall a fantastic morning run with absolutely stacks of local support for pretty much the entire route. Cheers.

A few notes of what was great and little areas that would make the day a little sweeter.

Lovely route with lots of support

I'm sure you will have lots saying this but more buses were needed for the shuttle from the Outlet

Really nice run and friendly, helpful people all along the routr

Im local, so really wanted to support this starting again in Tewkesbury. Encouraging people out to cheer us all on was great, I dont think there was any stretch of the route where there wasnt someone shouting for us all, which was really encouraging. Some more bins would be good next time, as I saw a lot of people throwing gel wrappers in the hedges etc. Also, perhaps something different for the water stops. A lot of plastic bottles were just chucked on the side. Part of the attraction is getting out in nature and if we are seeing lots of litter it doesnt "help the cause" for other local people to see what a great thing it is, and how it beings people in to the area. Emails were great, really informative and Dave was so friendly. It was my first half marathon, and although the route at the end was quite gruelling it was still enjoyable. The scottish guy commentating us all back was really good, enjoyed that banter a lot. Lets not mention the buses....... but starting and ending in the High Street was really great and added to the atmosphere. Even though my legs say no, I will be doing the next one!

Fabulous marhshalls, well organised event, quite expensive to enter when there is just a medal at the end (appreciate the road closures are costly)

Understand there were issues with the bus service, we down into Tewkesbury and there was plenty of parking.

Solid option if your a local

Great traffic management. Lovely water team. Should have mentioned race HQ was in Rosado lounge.

Best Tewkesbury running event yet

Unsure if roads needed to be closed both ways - perhaps road closures only 1 side of the road for public to be able to get around the town. 2 otherwise great organisation

Always a well organised run by Future Sports. The congratulatory handshake at the end is a lovely touch.

Just a small note - personally, I found the gap between the first water station and the second one quite long. I think it was at mile 8 or a bit more? I noticed I was a becoming a bit de-hydrated. Of course, I could have carried my own water so I can definitely take my own responsibility there. Just a small reflection.

Very good atmosphere could potentially of done with more shuttle buses however did not effect the day, 100 % added to the Calendar for next year

Great local race

I have ran this before as it’s in my home town so really glad you have bought it back.
I love the closed roads. Not sure locals agreed so maybe a one way system can be set up.
Bredon was not so nice with the road open.
I felt like everything was a bit spread out, bag drop, toilets, start, parking even though it did not effect me as I walked to the event,
A better place to start and have race village would be the vineyards or council offices.
Thank you for organising looking forward to next year.
